| Presenter: | International speaker Michael Ash |
| When: | Friday, 11th November 2011 |
| Where: | Pinelands Library |
| What: | Functional Medicine - Mike will speak on chronic infections, immunity, nutrition and philosophy: Why and how to help your patient manage common chronic health problems. The fields of immunology, microbiology, nutrition, epigenetics and metabolism are rapidly converging utilising a systems biology methodology to explain our intimate relationships with our microbial cohabitants. For over 30 years data has been building to scientifically support the hypothesis that intestinal cohabitants operate in a collective manner with macro and micro food intakes to shape and define our immune systems from an early age. The result is a collective impact bound by mutual cooperation that may have unintended consequences including a wide range of pathologies, including inflammatory diseases, autoimmunity and allergies, as well as functional bowel disorders. Michael will explore these concepts and discuss clinical applications and interventions, as well as the role of client and patient relationships, in the achievement of best outcomes. WHO IS MIKE ASH ? Mike’s specialism is the gastric mucosal immune system. He has developed and refined a number of effective clinical strategies for functional and pathological disruptions of the ‘wet tissues’. His approach to patient care is based on the Functional Medicine model. |
