Kefir-Chocolate smoothie

Serves 2
1 cup (250 ml) kefir
½ cup (125 ml) purified water
1 to 2 ripe organic bananas, peeled
½ cup (125 ml) pitted dates
2 tablespoons (30 ml) raw cacao or carob powder
1 teaspoon (5 ml) cinnamon powder, non-irradiated
¼ cup (60 ml) nuts, such as almonds, cashew nuts, pecan or walnut
2 tablespoons (30 ml) seeds, such as sunflower, flax or chia seeds
1 tablespoon (15 ml) raw honey to sweeten (optional)
½ cup (125 ml) ice cubes

Blend all the ingredients in a power blender until smooth.

(There is no clear scientific evidence that the blades of a blender will destroy the beneficial bacteria within the kefir. However, if it is a concern, the kefir could be gently mixed in with the rest of the ingredients after blending.)
