Pear & Tahini-Kefir Smoothie

Serves 4
2 large ripe pears, halved but skin on
2 ripe organic bananas, peeled
½ cup (125 ml) pitted dates
2 cups (500 ml) kefir
2 tablespoons (30 ml) wheat germ
2 tablespoons (30 ml) tahini
2 tablespoons (30 ml) raw honey
1 tablespoon (15 ml) bee pollen (optional)
1 tablespoon (15 ml) unrefined nut oil (optional)
1 cup (250 ml) ice cubes

Blend all the ingredients in a power blender until smooth.

Variation:
Replace the tahini with 1 teaspoon (5 ml) grated ginger root.

(There is no clear scientific evidence that the blades of a blender will destroy the beneficial bacteria within the kefir. However, if it is a concern, the kefir could be gently mixed in with the rest of the ingredients after blending.)
